Brown, Perez lead varsity runners

Ceres High competed at the second annual Sierra Cross Country Invitational at Legion-Tuolumne River Regional Park in Modesto on Saturday.

Leading the way for the varsity boys were Benny Perez, Jordan Gonzalez, Nick Gardner and Matt Schwark.

Perez placed 21st in a field of 114. He completed the 3.12-mile course in 19 minutes, 20 seconds.

Gonzalez (19:22), Gardner (20:07) and Schwark (21:16) placed 22nd, 41st and 60th, respectively.

Leading the way for the varsity girls were Karrah Brown, Vanessa Medina, Laura Morales and Sadie Tellez.

Brown placed 14th in a field of 112. She completed the 3.12-mile course in 21:35.

Medina (26:30), Morales (27:27) and Tellez (28:28) placed 74th, 80th and 87th, respectively.

The frosh-soph girls team placed fourth overall.

Leading the way were Nicole Laranjo, Nichole Alvarez, Vicki Morales, Caitlin Cerny, Katie Lutes, Victoria Medina, Melanie Casey and Nicole Caselli.

Laranjo placed ninth in a field of 104. She completed the 2-mile race in 13:42.

Alvarez (14:11), Morales (15:03), Cerny (15:09), Lutes (15:20), Medina (15:29), Casey (15:32) and Caselli (95th) placed 19th, 33rd, 37th, 41st, 45th, 47th and 95th, respectively.

The frosh-soph boys team placed fifth.

Leading the way were Henry Shambiel, Ramsey Magana, Alex Torres, Chad Hurt, Andre Walcott, Andrew Chipponeri, Darryl Lopez, Jonathan Esparza and Will Richards.

Shambiel placed 25th in a field of 131. He completed the 2-mile race in 12:20.

Magana (12:30), Torres (12:42), Hurt (12:44), Walcott (12:48), Chipponeri (12:55), Lopez (13:18), Esparza (13:36) and Richards (14:38) placed 30th, 37th, 39th, 41st, 48th, 65th, 74th and 111th, respectively.
