Bulldogs outnumber rival Hawks

Dwarfed in size, Central Valley had trouble keeping pace with Ceres High in team scoring.

The Bulldogs swept both varsity boys and girls swim meets on April 5.

"We have the second largest team in the league," Ceres High head coach Rebecca Sanders said. "A lot of our swimmers have experience before they come to us. They got a lot of natural talent and they're hard workers."

Ceres High's girls eased to a 126-24 crosstown victory and moved to 4-1 in the Western Athletic Conference standings (second place).

Haley Fisicaro, Maureen Nelson, Tori Gunzenhauser, Haley Hoback, Jasmine Connolly, Megan Braverman, Karli Gleason, Megan Valenzuela, Kirstie Lomoljo, Emily Chapman, Holly Lackey, Sarah Connors and Ashley Kuhno led the way.

Fisicaro placed first in the 100 free and 100 back.

Nelson placed first in the 200 IM and 50 free.

Gunzenhauser placed first in the 100 breast.

Hoback placed first in the 500 free and third in the 100 breast.

Connolly placed first in the 200 free and third in the 100 back.

Braverman placed first in the 100 fly and third in the 50 free.

Gleason placed second in the 200 free.

Valenzuela placed second in the 100 fly.

Lomoljo placed second in the 100 breast and fourth in the 100 back.

Chapman placed second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 fly.

Lackey placed second in the 500 free and third in the 200 IM.

Connors placed third in the 100 free.

Kuhno placed fourth in the 50 free and 100 free.

Ceres High's 200 medley relay team of Connolly, Gunzenhauser, Fisicaro and Valenzuela placed first.

Ceres High's 200 free relay team of Nelson, Braverman, Gunzenhauser and Fisicaro placed first.

Ceres High's 400 free relay team of Braverman, Valenzuela, Connolly and Nelson placed first.

Savanna Alvear, Victoria Gutierrez, Stephanie Navarro, Marissa Ortega, Kathleen Rambo and Coralyn Brown earned points in their respective events for the winless Hawks (0-5).

Alvear placed second in the 50 free and 100 back.

Gutierrez placed second in the 100 free.

Navarro placed fourth in the 100 breast.

Ortega placed fifth in the 50 free and 100 back.

Rambo placed fifth in the 100 free.

Brown placed fifth in the 100 breast.

The Hawks' 200 medley and 200 free relays placed second and third, respectively.

Ceres High's boys breezed to a 131-25 victory.

Dylan Hines swept the 50 free and 100 back.

Austin Massie finished first in the 200 free and 100 breast.

Zach Jones finished first in the 100 free.

Jacob Stone finished first in the 100 fly.

Manuel Hernandez finished first in the 200 IM.

Joseph Ochoa finished first in the 500 free and third in the 100 fly.

Gianni Blandino finished second in the 200 free and 100 back.

Alex Torres finished second in the 100 free.

Damien Underwood finished second in the 50 free and third in the 500 free.

Cody Azevedo finished second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 back.

Erik Weststeyn finished second in the 100 fly and third in the 100 breast.

Javier Garza finished third in the 200 free.

Grant Brown finished third in the 200 IM.

Nathan Stone finished fourth in the 500 free and 100 breast

Steven Smith finished fifth in the 50 free.

Ceres High's 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relay teams finished first.

The second-place Bulldogs improved to 4-1 in conference action.

The last-place Hawks dropped to 0-5.

All four of Central Valley's swimmers excelled against Ceres High.

Thomas Rogers finished second in the 100 breast and fourth in the 50 free.

Braden Rambo finished second in the 500 free and fifth in the 100 breast.

Tyler Owens finished third in the 50 free and 100 free.

Jesse Magana finished fourth in the 100 free and 100 back.

The Hawks' 200 medley and 200 free relay teams finished third.

"It's a fun meet to do together," Sanders said. "It's a friendly rivalry. Most of the kids swim together during the summer league."

Central Valley and Ceres High will close out the WAC dual-meet season this week.

The Hawks and Bulldogs will travel to Los Banos and Livingston, respectively, on Friday.
