Ceres athletes collect awards at nationals

The Ceres AcroGymnastics team brought home a trophy, 15 medals and eight ribbons from the USA Gymnastics-Sports Acrobatics Region I Championship Competition. The 15-team event was held in Folsom on Saturday and Sunday.

"We did very well," said Ceres coach Ron Osoria. "We won the Level 9 overall championship. That was exciting. We had two firsts, four seconds, and one fourth, fifth and sixth."

The top-three finishers claimed medals, while fourth through sixth received ribbons.

Erin Barrett, Ariel Davidson and Giselle Villegas placed first with a combined score of 48.300 in the Level 9 Women's Trio 12-14 Division.

Derek Chisamore and Steven Walker placed first with a combined score of 47.833 in the Level 9 Men's Pair 17&older Division.

Emily Silva, Stephanie Osoria and Jenna Geer placed second with a combined score of 54.533 in the Level 9 Women's Trio 15-16 Division.

Amber Autrand, Emily Hammerstein and Dora Cantu placed second with a combined score of 52.633 in the Level 8 Women's Trio 17&older Division.

Allison Cardenas and Sharon Montes placed second with a combined score of 52.033 in the Level 8 Women's Pair 17&older Division.

Robbi Loomis and Madison Allen placed second with a combined score of 52.850 in the Level 8 Women's Pair 15-16 Division.

Sarah Wilson, Alyssa Gardner and Ashleigh Stearns placed fourth with a combined score of 49.017 in the Level 8 Women's Trio 17&older Division.

Kimberly Osoria, Holly Goodrum and Crystal Machado placed fifth with a combined score of 52.000 in the Level 9 Women's Trio 17&older Division.

Jamie Beck and Dalicia Urrutia placed sixth with a combined score of 24.633 in the Level 6 Women's Pair 12-14 Division.

Ceres started training for the 2005 National Championships, to be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, July 22-28.

"We're going to be doing some double practices from now until then," Osoria said.

Ceres will be sending 21 athletes to the national competition.
