The Ceres High girls tennis team defeated Downey 5-0 in Modesto on Thursday.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-5 in the Modesto Metro Conference.

The Knights fell to 0-9 in the league standings.

Ceres won all three singles and both doubles matches.

Four of the five matches lasted two sets.

"We dominated," said Ceres coach Bryan Harden.

Amanda Guajardo defeated Theva Saenoudomsack 7-6, 6-2 in No. 1 singles play.

"Amanda had to work really hard for that win," Harden said.

Ashlee Moring defeated Audrey Burgess 6-3, 6-0 in No. 2 singles play.

"Ashlee has been our most consistent singles player," Harden said.

Logan Harden defeated Anabel Reyes 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in No. 3 singles play.

In No. 1 doubles play, Melissa Gonzales and Haylee Adrian defeated Betsy Lopez and Iris Lizama 6-0, 6-0.

Karolina Munzova and Kamie Machado defeated Helena Frankander and Ali Burden 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles play.

The Bulldogs defeated the Knights 5-0 on Sept. 21.

Beyer 3, Ceres 2

The Patriots edged the Bulldogs in Modesto on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

"Our girls played hard," Harden said. "I just think their minds were somewhere else."

Homecoming week proved to be a distraction.

"As a coach, you hate it because you don't have their undivided attention," Harden said. "There's just too many other things for the kids to think about and have to do." I think it's really hard for them to focus."

The Bulldogs dropped one of three singles and both doubles matches.

"Got to give Beyer credit," Harden said. "They did what they had to do to win."

Guajardo beat Beyer's Sloane Ardis 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles play.

Moring beat Beyer's Katrina Nelson 6-3, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play.

"They (Guajardo and Moring) both played really well," Harden said. "They made the shots they had to make. They were patient. They played tough and hung in there." - By DALE BUTLER / Staff Reporter of The Ceres (Calif.) Courier
