Making its first playoff appearance since 2009, Ceres High School's varsity softball team compiled a 1-2 record en route to a fourth-place finish in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV bracket this past week at Arnaiz Stadium in Stockton.
The Western Athletic Conference champion Bulldogs edged Sierra Valley Conference No. 2 seed Cosumnes Oaks 9-8 in the first round on Thursday.
Ceres High dropped into the loser's bracket following its 11-0 loss to eventual-section/Valley Oak League champion Oakdale Thursday evening.
The Bulldogs were eliminated from the postseason on Friday.
Kimball, the VOL runner-up, posted a 7-5 win over the Bulldogs.
A total of 22 teams, including seven from both the WAC and SVC, and eight from the VOL, vied for Division-IV playoff berths this season.
Just nine programs were invited to the postseason.
