Making its first playoff appearance since 2009, Ceres High School's varsity softball team compiled a 1-2 record en route to a fourth-place finish in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV bracket this past week at Arnaiz Stadium in Stockton.

The Western Athletic Conference champion Bulldogs edged Sierra Valley Conference No. 2 seed Cosumnes Oaks 9-8 in the first round on Thursday.

Ceres High dropped into the loser's bracket following its 11-0 loss to eventual-section/Valley Oak League champion Oakdale Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs were eliminated from the postseason on Friday.

Kimball, the VOL runner-up, posted a 7-5 win over the Bulldogs.

A total of 22 teams, including seven from both the WAC and SVC, and eight from the VOL, vied for Division-IV playoff berths this season.

Just nine programs were invited to the postseason.

Ceres High compiled a 17-9 overall and finished in first place in the WAC standings (10-2).

The Bulldogs secured their first playoff win since 2007.

Ceres High lost in the opening round in 2009 and 2008.
