CV, Ceres High athletes turn in solid performances at WAC finals

It didn't take Bryce Ford long to re-establish her dominance in track and field.

The Ceres High junior swept the 100 hurdles (16.28), 300 hurdles (47.92) and high jump (5-1), and finished second in the triple jump (34-10) at the Western Athletic Conference Varsity Girls Championships on May 5 at Patterson Community Stadium.

Ford took last season off to focus on basketball.

Bryce advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet in the 300 hurdles and high jump her freshman year. She was runner-up in the high jump at Divisionals. Ford took second in the high jump, third in the 300 hurdles, fourth in the 400 and sixth in the triple jump during the Valley Oak League Finals.

"She picked up where she left off," Bulldogs head coach Glenn Driskell said. "I'm not surprised. She's a three-sport star. She made first-team, all-league in cross country, basketball and track and field this year. She dominated."

Heaven Simon of crosstown-rival Central Valley didn't perform like a freshman last week.

She placed first in the 400 (1:05.81), third in the 100 (13.35) and fifth in the 200 (28.36).

Ceres High's Cecilia Carretero placed second in the 1,600 (5:49.55) and 800 (2:33.70).

Bulldog teammates Bella Carlyle, Ryleigh Honberger, Yvonne Verduzco, Kiana Crawford, Yanelli Espinosa, Lourdes Razo, Nour Lopez, Karina Ruiz, Ayanna Williams, Sophia Garcia, Alexis Boardrow and Aurora Almonte also competed.

Carlyle placed third in the shot put (31-11/2).

Honberger placed third in the long jump (13-21/2), fourth in the high jump (4-4) and fifth in the triple jump (30-11/4).

Verduzco placed fourth in the 400 (1:12.40) and 11th in the 200 (30.40).

Crawford placed fifth in the discus (88-5).

Espinosa placed sixth in the discus (87-9) and eighth in the shot put (28-0).

Razo placed sixth in the shot put (28-8) and eighth in the discus (87-0).

Lopez placed seventh in the 100 hurdles (21.52) and ninth in the 300 hurdles (1:02.69).

Ruiz placed seventh in the 400 (1:16.93) and 13th in the 200 (34.90).

Williams placed eighth in the 100 (14.43) and 10th in the 200 (30.36).

Garcia placed eighth in the 400 (1:18.16), 11th in the 100 (15.25) and 12th in the 200 (32.91).

Boardrow placed ninth in the discus (75-11).

Almonte placed 12th in the 100 (15.98).

Ceres High's 4x400 relay team of Carretero, Lopez, Verduzco and Garcia placed third (5:01.69).

Ceres High's 4x100 relay team of Crawford, Garcia, Verduzco and Williams placed fourth (59.57).

Central Valley's Christina Morales placed third in the pole vault (7-6).

Angel Simon placed fourth in the 100 (13.75) and sixth in the 200 (29.18).

Karla Delgado placed fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.00) and 10th in the 300 hurdles (1:05.25).

Drucella Miranda placed fifth in the 300 hurdles (53.30).

Maday Padilla placed ninth in the 100 (14.46).

Harpreet Kaur placed 10th in the 1,600 (7:27.60).

Central Valley's 4x100 relay team of Morales, Padilla, Angel Simon and Heaven Simon placed third (56.04).

Ceres High's Jacob Meyer successfully defended his high jump title at the WAC Boys Championships. The senior cleared six feet.

Austin Payne placed first in the 300 hurdles (43.33) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.31).

Caden Johnson placed second in the high jump (5-10) and seventh in the triple jump (38-10).

Gabriel Solis placed third in the 400 (54.51).

Fernando Madrigal placed ninth in the 3,200 (14:42.63).

Jordan Dray placed ninth in the 110 hurdles (20.65) and 13th in the 300 hurdles (50.91).

Mark Rodriguez placed ninth in the discus (97-10) and 14th in the shot put (30-9).

Brett Gonzalez placed 11th in the 1,600 (5:53.01) and 3,200 (13:28.65).

Joao Moita placed 11th in the 800 (2:40.22) and 12th in the 1,600 (6:17.26).

Ryan Ramirez placed 12th in the 100 (12.15).

Christian Stein placed 12th in the 800 (2:44.97) and 13th in the 400 (1:06.96).

Antonio Jasso placed 13th in the 100 (13.03).

Central Valley senior William Hunnel placed first in the pole vault (11-6). He took fourth last year.

Cristian Chavez placed second in the discus (138) and third in the shot put (44-21/2).

Matt Menor placed third in the 110 hurdles (17.08) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (45.70).

Edward Martinez placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (44.60).

Andrew Levery placed fifth in the pole vault (9-6).

Ja'Quan Gardner placed fifth in the 100 (11.54).

Anthony Centeno placed sixth in the 400 (57.28), and eighth in the 300 hurdles (47.66) and long jump (16-81/2).

Hector Ornales placed seventh in the shot put (38-1) and 10th in the discus (87-71/2).

Angelo Bermudez placed eighth in the 100 (11.58).

Nick Gonzalez placed eighth in the 800 (2:28.23) and 10th in the 400 (58.92).

Alejandro Tovar placed 10th in the 1,600 (5:45.82).

Roger Khuon placed 10th in the 100 (11.95).

Jaquel Pitts placed 10th in the 200 (25.40), 11th in the 400 (1:01.13) and 12th in the long jump (15-41/2).

Gary McCormick placed 11th in the 100 (12.10).

Jorge Garcia placed 19th in the discus (76-8).

Central Valley and Ceres High will compete at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV-V Championships on May 15 and 17 at Modesto Junior College.
