Central Valley High School's junior-varsity boys basketball team won by blowout, 67-53, versus Ceres High on Jan. 25.

The Bulldogs challenged the Hawks during Friday's season finale.

Visiting Central Valley defeated Ceres High 56-47 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

"It was intense because we're crosstown rivals and it's our last game," said Central Valley's Parker Griffin, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound freshman post player.

The Hawks and Bulldogs compiled identical 5-7 records in Western Athletic Conference play.

Griffin made 8 of 12 foul shots and totaled 22 points against Ceres High last week.

Manuel Garcia and Tranjit Singh chipped in with nine points apiece.

Kenneth Mesa, Maleek Berry, Juan Manriquez and Waleed Majeed tallied seven, four, three and two points, respectively.

Dylan Canatsy collected a team-high 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Brad Bussard, Mike Ghimenti, Terry Brogdon, Jake Edwards, Dominic Durossette and Brent Bussard had 10, nine, six, five, four and two points, respectively.

Central Valley battled back from a 26-22 halftime deficit.

The Hawks outscored the Bulldogs 34-21 during the final 16 minutes. Griffin had 10 points. He drained four of five foul shots.

"We played smarter and put it away," Parker said. "It makes me happy knowing I'm only a freshman and I contributed like that on a JV team."
