The Ceres Dolphins recreational swimming club secured a split with the tradition-rich Ripon Sea Lions earlier this month.

Ceres' girls team improved to 3-0 in the MVSL dual-meet standings following its 496-454 win over Ripon on June 6 at Ceres High School. The Dolphins defeated the Sea Lions by 75 points at the Tracy Invitational.

"I knew going in it would be very close," Ceres head coach Tracy Bull said. "We swam extremely well."

Ceres' boys squad dropped to 0-3 after losing 487-346 to Ripon.

"Our numbers are always going to be a problem for us," Bull said. "We're competing against baseball. Ceres is a baseball town. There are fewer athletes to choose from. That's tough."

The Dolphins unveiled their new $6,000-plus digital scoring system which displays lanes, places and times for individual competitors.

"The last 10 years we've totally overhauled everything," Bull said. "We really put a lot of effort into fundraising for it (the scoring system) last year. It's a mini-version of what you see at college meets. It's a pretty big deal. We're no longer the doormat of the league."
