Ceres High frosh-soph girls basketball head coach Kassi Baker can't remember the last time her team took first at its home tournament.

The Bulldogs captured the 2009 championship with a 45-23 victory against Sonora on Saturday.

Jessica Ellsworth scored 18 points and dished out five assists for Ceres High.

Bulldog teammates Sofia Luna (10 points and eight rebounds), Ashton Frampton (10 points and five rebounds), Bethany Mazza (five points, seven rebounds and five assists) and Harveen Gill (eight rebounds) were also major contributors.

"The biggest thing is we came out and played defense," Baker said. "And our shots fell. Almost everything we put up went in."

Ceres High defeated all three of its opponents.

"We won every single game as a team," Baker said.

The Bulldogs earned the right to play for the title after securing a narrow 34-30 win over Turlock on Friday.

Luna finished with a double-double, tallying 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Frampton scored seven points.

Gill had six points and 16 boards.

Ellsworth and Mazza netted four and three points, respectively.

Ceres High cruised past Downey, 40-20, in opening-round action on Thursday.

Ellsworth paced the Bulldogs with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Haley Fisicaro had six points and nine rebounds.

Mazza collected four points and five assists.

Gill totaled four points and 13 rebounds.

Frampton finished with three points and six rebounds.
