Central Valley High School's freshman girls basketball team concluded its preseason with a 26-15 road win against Los Banos on Wednesday.

"They're starting to play better together," head coach Julie Gant said. "They've been practicing hard."

Deja Jackson scored a team-high eight points for Central Valley, which shot 80 percent (8 of 10) from the free-throw line. Jessica Martinez and Crystal Guzman each contributed five points. Hannah Baker had four points. Catrina Castillo and Julie Flores chipped in two points apiece.

The Hawks stormed to a 22-5 lead in the opening 24 minutes of play.

"We were ahead far enough so I put in my second-stringers in the last quarter," Gant said.

Central Valley improved to 7-2 on the year.

The Hawks will play at Lathrop and Weston Ranch next week. Central Valley's Valley Oak League schedule also includes games against Ceres High, Sonora, Oakdale, Manteca, East Union and Sierra.

"Hopefully, we'll be up in the top four," Gant said.
