Central Valley’s boys tennis team put the finishing touches on a historic regular season last week. The Hawks didn’t lose a single match. Central Valley compiled a 13-0 overall record.
The Hawks claimed the Western Athletic Conference championship, its first league crown, with a perfect 12-0 mark.
“We did something that has never been done in school history,” head coach Nimrat Chahal said. “I don’t know the next time we’ll have an undefeated regular season and win a conference title. It doesn’t happen often. It’s a huge accomplishment.”
Central Valley closed out the WAC regular season with a 9-0 victory over visiting Livingston on Senior Day on April 16.
Chahal honored six underclassmen Hawk players before the match, including Avori Ortega, Osvaldo Cisneros, Silas Rodriguez, Alex Aguilar, Jaylan Tagadaya and Salvador Alvarez Madriz.
Ortega, Cisneros, Rodriguez, Aguilar and Tagadaya are starters.
“The reason we won the league championship is because of them,” Chahal said. “They have a lot of fun playing. All five of them are committed. I’m not sure they missed a practice this year.”
Central Valley swept all six singles and three doubles matches while shutting out Livingston.
Ortega prevailed 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles play.
Cisneros prevailed 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play.

Josh Rubio and Andrew Arevalo prevailed 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles play.
Simar Malhi and Sahib Patter prevailed by forfeit in No. 3 doubles play.
“They took care of business like they should,” Chahal said.
The Hawks clinched the WAC title with a 7-2 win at Lathrop on April 13.
Central Valley players and coaches didn’t celebrate after the historic victory.
“When we have our award banquet, that will be the time,” said Chahal, who plans to create a shirt to commemorate Central Valley’s first-ever league championship for boys tennis at the conclusion of the season.
The Hawks won all three doubles and four of six singles matches against the Spartans.
Rubio and Abram Munguia prevailed 6-3, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles play.
Saran and Arevalo prevailed 6-0, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles play.
