Ceres High's varsity boys soccer team compiled a 2-2 record en route to a third-place finish in Group C at the Pitman tournament.
"The competition was tough," head coach Javier Mercado said. "We should have placed second. We'll get better."
The Bulldogs opened the tournament on Friday with back-to-back wins.
Ceres High posted a 4-2 victory over Golden Valley.
Joel Bhatti scored a game-high two goals for the Bulldogs.
Tomas Rocha and Adrian Espinoza each had one goal.
Nicolas Martinez made three saves.
Ceres High earned a hard-fought 2-1 win while battling Kimball.
Cris Torres collected two goals.
Martinez had five saves.
The Bulldogs lost 3-1 to Turlock and 2-1 to Galt on Saturday.
Rocha scored both of Ceres High's goals.
Martinez totaled 14 saves, including 11 against Galt.
Turlock beat Ceres High despite being outshot, 18-6.
CV boys dominates
Central Valley's junior-varsity boys soccer team dropped three of four games at the Pitman tournament in 2012.
The Hawks won the title in dominant fashion this year, outscoring their four opponents 19-2.
Central Valley defeated Atwater 2-0 and Patterson 7-1 on Saturday.
The Hawks handled El Capitan of Merced 6-0 and Sierra 4-1 on Friday.
Robert Perez led Central Valley in scoring with five goals.
The Hawks have a 17-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season.
Panthers 36, Bulldogs 6
Ceres High's freshman football team dropped its season opener 36-6 to host Modesto High on Friday.
"The score is a reflection of our effort," Bulldogs head coach Steve Festa said. "We made a lot of mistakes."
Elijah Niblett and Haayden Martinez accounted for Ceres High's lone score, combining for a 40-yard touchdown in the first half.
