CV, CHS cross country teams fall
Diaz, Bastidas lead Hawks

Competing in 90-degree weather, Patterson edged Central Valley 25-30 in varsity girls cross country on Wednesday at Ceres River Bluff Regional Park.

The host Hawks dropped to 0-2 in the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet standings.

Patterson improved to 1-0.
Jasmine Diaz was Central Valley's top finisher. She placed third on the three-mile course with a time of 30 minutes, 16 seconds.

Daisy Ochoa, Jessica Alvarez, Amy Gonzalez and Alexis Morin took fourth (30:20), fifth (30:25), eighth (32:00) and 10th (35:08), respectively.

Tigers coast past Hawks
Central Valley's varsity boys cross country team lost 16-58 to 2013 Western Athletic Conference champion Patterson this past week in Ceres.

The Hawks dropped to 1-1 in the league standings.

The Tigers improved to 1-0 in the WAC.

Jose Bastidas was Central Valley's top finisher (fifth, 21:30).

Anthony Carrillo (11th, 29:20), Lovepreet Shergill (12th, 25:14), Gilberto Alvarez (14th, 25:51) and Julian Gallardo (16th, 26:44) also scored points for the Hawks.

Wolves sweep Dawgs
Ceres High School's varsity girls cross country team failed to meet its own expectations while competing against Livingston this past week.

The host Wolves won the much-anticipated matchup, 23-33, on Wednesday at Arakelian Park.

The Bulldogs dropped to 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet standings.

Livingston improved to 1-0.

Ceres High's Lisette Carretero (third overall, 22:57) was edged out for second place by three seconds.

Bulldog teammates Lacey Oliveira (fourth, 24:53), Jennifer Cisneros (26:01), Cristina Arreola (26:41) and Haleigh Leazer (26:48) finished fourth, sixth, ninth and 11th, respectively.

Livingston 19, CHS 44
Christian Linarez had to settle for runner-up honors during the Ceres High varsity boys cross country team's 19-44 loss to the Wolves last week.

Linarez, a sophomore, finished the race in 19 minutes, 37 seconds.

Ceres High dropped to 0-2 in the WAC dual-meet standings.

Livingston improved to 1-0.
