Janessa Godinez and Central Valley’s softball team topped Buhach Colony 6-1 on Thursday in Ceres.
The Hawks improved to 4-12 on the season and 2-3 in the CCC standings.
“We have momentum right now,” said Godinez, a junior pitcher/shortstop. “We have more confidence in ourselves as well.”
Godinez improved her pitching record to 2-3. She’s won her last two starts.
Godinez gave up one run and four hits with four strikeouts in seven innings versus Buhach Colony.
“It’s definitely one of my better performances,” she said. “I’m proud of how I did and I hope I keep it up.”
Godinez helped her own cause by batting 1-for-4 from the plate with one double, one RBI and one run.
Victoria Lloyd, Micaela Martinez, Julia Roton, Kylie Maines and Priscilla Hamidat also chipped in on offense.
Lloyd batted 3-for-4 with one homer, one double, three RBIs and one run.
Martinez collected two RBIs.
Roton singled and scored once.
Maines and Hamidat both tallied one run.
Central Valley led 4-1 heading into the third inning. The Hawks scored two runs in each of the first two innings.
The Hawks outscored the Thunder 2-0 during the final two innings.
“We were up,” Godinez said. “I wasn’t so tense. I was a lot more relaxed and confident.”
Central Valley notched its second straight win in conference play.
The Hawks have outscored their last two opponents, 15-6.
“We’ve been working a lot on placement hitting at practice,” Godinez said.
Central Valley will play host to Patterson on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Bulldogs roll
Ceres High’s softball team scored a combined 34 runs en route to collecting mercy-rule wins against Lathrop and Grace Davis this past week.
“We got girls putting up crazy numbers right now,” Bulldogs’ head coach Mike Corsaut said. “We got to keep it going.”
Second-place Ceres High improved to 11-7 overall and 7-1 in the Western Athletic Conference with a 21-0 victory over host Lathrop in five innings on Friday.
“We’re one game behind (first-place) Los Banos,” Corsaut said. “We have to keep taking care of business until we play them again.”
The Bulldogs had a host of contributors on offense.
Sehren Martinez batted 3-for-4 with three doubles, five RBIs and four runs.
Alizae Cole batted 3-for-5 with one homer, one double, five RBIs and two runs.
Ava Montesdeoca batted 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs.
Brooklyn Heffernan batted 2-for-3 with one double, two RBIs and two runs.
Alayna DeLaTorre batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and three runs.
Isabela Giraldes batted 2-for-4 with one double, two RBIs and one run.
Giraldes improved her pitching record to 4-3.
She allowed no runs and one hit with 10 strikeouts and one walk in four innings.
“Bela did a fantastic job,” Corsaut said. “She dominated like I knew she would.”
Ceres High pulled away for a 13-1 five-inning win against Grace Davis on Wednesday in Modesto.
Heffernan batted 3-for-4 with one triple, two doubles, two RBIs and two runs.
Maddie Schultz batted 3-for-3 with three RBIs and one run.
Nani Sagapolu batted 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run.
Giraldes started at pitcher.
She gave up one run and two hits with six strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
Ceres High will battle Beyer on the road today at 3:30 p.m.
