Ceres High's varsity girls soccer team strengthened its grip on second place in the Western Athletic Conference standings this past week.

The Bulldogs improved to 8-3-0 in the WAC after blanking the Tigers of Los Banos 7-0 on the road last Thursday.

"They give everything they have every single game," head coach Miguel Saldate said.

Siriana Gudino led Ceres High with two goals.

Breanna Moreno, Mariah Trevino, Miranda Wilds, Arianah Martinez and Angelmarie Coral all scored once.

Coral and Mariah Trevino both made two saves while splitting playing time at goalkeeper.

The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 4-0 in the opening half.

Ceres High snapped a two-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over visiting Pacheco on Jan. 31 at Bulldog Stadium.

Moreno broke a scoreless tie 27 minutes into the first half.

Coral and Gudino had three saves apiece.

"We're playing well as a team," Saldate said. "We can get better."

The top three teams in the WAC advance to the postseason.

The Bulldogs are vying for their third straight playoff berth.

"I'd be surprised if we didn't make it," Saldate said.

Ceres High will play host to third-place Livingston (6-3-2) tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.
