Ceres High's varsity softball team won in thrilling fashion during the opening day of Western Athletic Conference play this past week.

The Bulldogs prevailed 1-0 during their 11-inning battle with the visiting Tigers of Los Banos on Wednesday.

Ceres High star pitcher Callie Nunes allowed no runs and one hit with 14 strikeouts and two walks.

Nunes had a pitch count of 142 while shutting out Los Banos.


Shelby Veuve accounted for the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning.

She singled twice against the Tigers.
Andrea Duran batted 2-for-5.

Ceres High fell to 10-5 on the year and 1-1 in the WAC standings following Friday's 9-8 loss at Patterson.

The game featured five lead changes.

Down 8-7, Patterson scored two runs in the final inning to win it.

Ceres High erased a three-run deficit by tallying four runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Rayohna Sagapolu batted 3-for-3 with one double, two RBIs and two runs.

Freshman Vianney Perez batted 3-for-4 with one double, two RBIs and one run.

Freshman Bailey Showen batted 1-for-4 with one triple, one RBI and one run.

Nunes gave up seven earned runs, scattered nine hits, struck out nine and walked one during her 131-pitch outing.

Ceres High will play at Livingston today and host to Pacheco on Friday.

Both games will begin at 4 p.m.
