Hawks, Dawgs compete at MJC track & field invitational

Central Valley’s and Ceres High’s track and field teams braved bad weather while competing at the rain-shortened Modesto Junior College High School Invitational on March 29.

A host of events were canceled due to the wet weather, including the 100, 200, 300 hurdles, 4x400 relay and long jump.

“The rain came on pretty heavy,” Bulldogs’ assistant coach Paul Smith said. “Once there was pooling in lane one and one of the runways for field events, they decided to call it. There were no signs of letting up.”

Jayden Garcia led Ceres High’s girls team as she finished second in the triple jump and 17th in the 100 hurdles.

Ava Montesdeoca finished seventh in the triple jump.

Mariah Zamora finished 15th in the 400.

Brooke Kiser finished 17th in the 400.

Carmen Arce-Hayes finished 21st in the 100 hurdles.

Savannah Weese finished 24th in the high jump and 37th in the 100 hurdles.

Alyssa Santillanes finished 31st in the 400.

Ceres High’ 4x800 relay team of Marissa Pacheco, Jazmine Rivera, Brooke Kiser and Jaden Stahl finished sixth.

Lliria Lira Trinidad led Central Valley’s girls team as she tied for first in the pole vault.

Aaliyah Jauregui finished sixth in the high jump and 14th in the 400.

Aaralyn Jauregui finished ninth in the 400 and 10th in the high jump.

Rylee Randez finished 16th in the shot put.

Jasmin Madriz finished 19th in the 400.

Kassandra Torres finished 24th in the 400.

Sophia Alvarez finished 24th in the high jump.

Natalie Perra finished 40th in the shot put.

Alyssa Ontiveroz finished 42nd in the 1,600.

Laura Flores finished 45th in the shot put.

Central Valley’s 4x800 relay team of Stephanie Lopez Murillo, Ruby Medina, Mia Mendoza and Milianna Rios finished eighth.

Central Valley’s 4x100 relay team of Aaliyah Jauregui, Aaliyah Smith, Kassandra Torres and Aaralyn Jauregui finished 11th.

Jaiden Boss led Ceres High’s boys team as he finished third in the 110 hurdles.

Tre Karriem finished fourth in the triple jump.

Antwan Stevenson finished seventh in the high jump.

Aron Chavez finished ninth in the 400.

Kyle Phongsa finished 12th in the triple jump.

Aaron Lopez finished 16th in the 1,600.

Bryan Gallardo finished 19th in the shot put.

Manny Mendoza finished 20th in the 400.

Von Tigner finished 20th in the triple jump.

Juan Carrillo finished 23rd in the shot put.

Zion Rochell finished 29th in the shot put.

Ceres High’s 4x800 relay team of Julian Barrera, Alexis Rodriguez, Aaron Lopez and Sergio Torres finished sixth.

Ceres High’s 4x100 relay team of Reis Smith, Manny Mendoza, AJ Brown and Tre Karriem finished seventh.

Jadin Navarro led Central Valley’s boys as he placed 16th in the 110 hurdles.

Damian Tapia finished 21st in the shot put.

Kevin Mendoza Garcia finished 24th in the 1,600.

Marcus Nichols finished 27th in the shot put.

Central Valley’s 4x800 relay team of Cesar Hernandez Espinoza, Mauro Mendoza Rosales, Marco Coria and Daniel Munguia finished 10th.

Central Valley’s 4x100 relay team of Anthony Ramirez, Xavier Ramirez, Jadin Navarro and Luis Flores finished 15th.


CCC action

Central Valley’s girls track and field team showed improvement while taking sixth at the Central California Conference’s #2 Cluster Meet on March 27 at Veterans Stadium.

The Hawks totaled 14 points en route to finishing ahead of the Buhach Colony Thunder (nine points). Buhach Colony topped Central Valley during the CCC’s #1 Cluster Meet.

Lliria Lira Trinidad placed fourth in the pole vault and 28th in the 200.

Eliana Tamayo placed seventh in the 200 and 10th in the 100.

Rylee Randez placed 11th in the discus and 17th in the shot put.

Brianna Espinoza placed 14th in the discus and 15th in the shot put.

Alexa Gudino placed 16th in the long jump and 34th in the 200.

Lissandra Ortiz placed 22nd in the discus and 27th in the shot put.

Central Valley’s 4x800 relay team of Emma Webster, Milianna Rios, Llarely Gutierrez and Alex Gudino placed third.

Central Valley’s boys took last for the second time during the CCC Cluster Meet season.

The Hawks posted a team score of 19.

Anthony Ramirez placed first in the long jump and fifth in the 100.

Jackson Stokes placed fourth in the pole vault and 23rd in the 1,600.

Damian Carrillo placed 11th in the discus and 45th in the shot put.

Jadin Navarro placed 12th in the 110 hurdles.

Kenneth Orrin placed 14th in the discus and 24th in the shot put.

Damian Tapia placed 15th in the shot put and 26th in the discus.

Luis Flores placed 22nd in the long jump, 27th in the 200 and 41st in the 100.
