Runners improve

The Ceres High cross country team scrimmaged against Linden at Legion Park in Modesto on Thursday.

The varsity race featured 23 runners, including 17 Bulldogs.

"A lot of the kids improved a lot in one week," said Ceres coach Glenn Driskell.

Benny Perez was Ceres' top male finisher. He completed the three-mile race in 20 minutes, 15 seconds. Nicole Larange was the Bulldogs' top female finisher. She placed first amongst girls and ninth overall in 23:18.

Nick Gardner (21:11), Alex Torres (21:16), Chad Hurt (22:06) and Matt Schwark (22:39) placed third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

Andrew Chipponeri and Henry Shambiel tied for seventh at 23:15.

Karrah Brown (23:20), Ramsey Magana (23:44), Pedro Cortes (25:43), Katie Lutes (26:09) and Vanessa Medina (26:55) placed 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively.

Laura Morales (27:10), Sadie Tellez (27:46), Cynthia Brambila (31:36) and Brandi Bonillas (33:51) placed 16th, 18th, 21st and 22nd, respectively.

Walcott takes first

Andre Walcott won the frosh-soph race. The freshman finished the two-mile course in 14:19.

Jonathan Esparza (14:25), Chad Bennett (14:47), Darryl Lopez (14:58) and Paul Kang (16:02) placed second, third, fourth, sixth and eighth, respectively.

Vicki Morales (16:08), Will Richards (16:21), Caitlin Cerny (16:28) and Victoria Medina (17:10) placed 10th, 13th, 14th and 18th, respectively.
