The Ceres Sizzle 16-and-under travel softball team claimed the championship at the NSA Rock-N-Roll tournament, staged Aug. 2-3, at Modesto's Rainbow Fields.

The Sizzle won four of five games and moved their overall record to 25-8-1.

"This is our third time taking first this season," head coach Dima Ferrel said. "These girls continue to play great together as a team. That's why they're so successful."
Ceres edged Starfire of San Ramon 2-1 for the title on Aug. 3.

Sarah Price totaled five strikeouts while pitching a complete game.

"She did what she was supposed to do on the mound," Ferrel said.

The Sizzle tallied both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Adryana Knights walked and scored on Valaree Gonzalez's double.

Gonzalez raced home when Shania Cisneros singled to center.

The Starfire cut the deficit to one run in the top of the fifth inning.
The Sizzle routed Fanucchi of Stockton 7-1 in the semifinals on Aug. 3.

Ceres topped Fanucchi (3-1) and Starfire (2-0) on Aug. 2.

The Sizzle lost 8-6 to the Mavericks (Bay Area).

Ceres will compete in the No Mercy in Merced tournament this weekend. The Sizzle will play their games at Turlock's Pedretti Park.
