The Ceres Sizzle 16-and-under travel softball team placed at another tournament.

Ceres tied for third with a 2-3 record at the Softball Safari.

The eight-team event was held at Rainbow Fields this past weekend.

"We were just as good as any of the teams out there," head coach Mike Corsaut said.

The Sizzle committed four errors during its 5-2 loss to Sunnyvale Wicked in the semifinals on Sunday.

Ceres edged the Livermore Mavericks 5-4 Sunday afternoon.

Malynda Lomeli drove in the winning run with two outs in the final inning.

Tessa Corsaut tallied five strikeouts while pitching for Ceres.

The Sizzle dropped two of three games during the first day of the tournament.

Ceres suffered a 5-3 loss in the first round to the Mavericks Saturday morning.

The Sizzle played flawless defense en route to a 3-0 victory over the Valley Stompers (San Ramon).

Monica Gonzalez allowed four hits with one strikeout in Ceres' 2-1 loss to USA Elite of Tracy.

Ceres won the Rev Honey title at Rainbow Fields on July 17.

The Sizzle have had to settle for third-place honors the past two weeks.

"They were really upset about losing," coach Corsaut said. "They're competitive. They want to get better."
