Spikers win twice

The Ceres High volleyball team had 35 digs, 23 kills, 12 aces and five blocks during its 25-16, 25-16, 25-15 win over Downey in Modesto Thursday night.

"I'm pleased with our performance," said Ceres coach Sue Garcia.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-7 in the Modesto Metro Conference.

The Knights fell to 0-14 in the league standings.

Ceres got key contributions from just about everyone.

Meghan Franksen had nine kills, nine digs and four aces.

Elisha Ferguson had 21 assists, six digs and two aces.

Krystle Brown had eight kills, five digs, three aces and two blocks.

Jessica Hunter had five kills, three digs, two aces and two blocks.

Monica Hall, Melissa Breck and Katie Richards had six, three and two digs, respectively. Richards also had one kill.

Jennifer Arnold had one dig and one ace.

Downey's Aubrey Ames had seven kills, Julie Quintanilla dished out 15 assists and Tiffany Brown added eight digs.

Dawgs upset Patriots

Ceres handed Beyer its first loss in league on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at Ceres High School.

Led by Brown, Franksen and Ferguson, the Bulldogs posted a 3-1 win over the Patriots, the MMC champions.

Brown had 13 kills and three blocks and nine digs, Franksen added 18 digs and four aces and Ferguson tallied 30 assists, nine digs and one ace for Ceres.

Hunter, Hall, Arnold, Breck, Richards and Jessica Mazza also contributed.

Hunter had 10 kills, nine digs and two aces.

Hall had seven digs and two aces. Arnold had six digs and one ace. Breck had three digs and two aces. Richards had five digs and one aces. Mazza had two digs.

"It felt good to beat them," Garcia said. "It was surreal."

Stephanie Scott had nine kills, Heidi Miller had 14 assists, Aimee Neville had six blocks, Dani Ford had four aces and Jennifer Billock had seven digs for Beyer.

The Patriots won the first game, 25-18.

The Bulldogs won the final three games--25-14, 25-21, 25-19.
