History was made at Central Valley High School’s newly-opened athletic stadium last week.
CV’s football program hosted its first-ever Homecoming game on campus on Friday.
The Hawks delighted their fans with a 55-7 domination of the Pacheco Panthers.
“Our mantra this week was us,” Central Valley running back/outside linebacker Elizjha Casteel said. “We weren’t worried about distractions as in Homecoming. We went into the game humble and ready.”
“Being able to put on a show like that under the lights was amazing,” Hawks’ lineman Santiago Garcia added.
Central Valley won its fifth straight game.
The Hawks improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
The Panthers dropped to 2-4 and 1-2.
Central Valley compiled a 4-6 overall record and struggled to a fifth-place finish in league (3-4) in 2025.
“It’s a new year,” said Casteel. “We’re just getting started. We have way more to show and prove. We want to dominate as much as we can. Nobody is letting their foot off the pedal. We want to put CV on the map.”
“We’re proving a lot of people wrong,” Garcia stated. “It feels good.”
Led by its offensive line, which features Garcia (right tackle), James Hartley (right guard), Abel Huerta (center), Edhen Alvarez (left guard) and Adrian Vega (left tackle), Central Valley racked up a season-high 377 yards and six touchdowns on the ground versus Pacheco.
The Hawks had 513 yards of total offense, along with eight TDs.
“A lot of preparation goes into being able to play like that,” Garcia said. “When we get on the field, we turn into one collective unit. Everybody is on the same page.”
Casteel led the Hawks with 135 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries.
Sergio Torres ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.
Julian Perez rushed for 60 yards and one touchdown on two carries.
Ryder Davis totaled 15 yards and one touchdown on three carries.
Ivan Quezada added 44 yards on seven carries.
Central Valley quarterback Junior Gomez completed 10 of 10 passes for 136 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Julian Gonzalez caught six passes for 73 yards and one touchdown.
Adrian De La Hoya had 32 yards and one touchdown on one reception.
Josiah Armenta made all seven of his point-after kicks.
“Most of our success comes from our linemen,” Casteel stated. “They’re fast and athletic. They do a lot of extra work at practice to make sure our running backs have big enough holes to run through. Our coaches are also smart with their play calling.”
“Our offensive line is amazing,” Garcia added. “James Hartley weighs 180 pounds. And he’s moving 300-pound linemen against their will. You can’t teach that. We all have qualities you can’t teach. It really adds to our success.”
Central Valley’s defense has limited its last five opponents to 83 total points.
Damian Jackson led the Hawks last week with five tackles and one sack.
Kaleb Mendoza had four tackles and one fumble recovery.
Diego Quintanilla and Ethan Ramirez each had three tackles and one pass deflection.
Maxwell Melchner had two tackles and one pass deflection.
Marcus Olivas had one tackle and half a sack.
Antonio Louis had one fumble recovery.
James Hartley had half a sack.
The Hawks imposed their will while building a commanding 41-0 lead in the opening half against the Panthers.
“It was our first Homecoming on our field,” Casteel said. “We were hungry. We dominated. We did what we had to do. We’ll celebrate for 24 hours and flip the page.”
Central Valley didn’t underestimate Pacheco.
“We did our walk-throughs (before the game),” Casteel said. “Everyone was dialed in. We had the right mindset. I’m just proud of my boys.”
Central Valley will face Lathrop (3-3, 2-1) on the road this Friday at 7 p.m.
