• HEADLIGHT PROBLEM LEADS TO DRUG ARREST: CERES - A 21-year-old Modesto man was arrested Saturday evening after he was found with illegal drugs after being pulled over for driving without headlights.

The arrest came at 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 18. Officer Dan Fairchild was on patrol and stopped a red 1990 Nissan Sentra in the 1400 block of Holm Avenue. The driver, Manuel Tellez, rolled down the window and Fairchild could smell marijuana smoke coming from the interior.

During a search of the car Officer Fairchild found digital scales, separately packaged small amounts of cocaine and marijuana. Tellez was booked for possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics for sale.

• PARKED VAN STRUCK: CERES - A 29-year-old Ceres woman was uninjured as her car crashed into a parked van Sunday morning after she lost control after swatting at a spider dangling in front of her.

The crash occurred at 6:44 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19 in the 2900 block of Garrison Avenue.

Officer Josh Kling found driver Yuri Lara walking away from the crash and was told that she lost control of the1996 Toyota Camry as she was traveling eastbound on Garrison east of Shushan Drive when she saw a spider dangling in front of her. She tried to swat the spider but struck parked 2008 Ford van. The van sustained minor damage but Lara's car had moderate damage.

Police did not cite Lara sensing that she was not trying to get away but going to get help.

vSAWED OFF SHOTGUN FOUND: CERES - Ten trespassers were pulled from a Darrah Street apartment that was supposed to be empty while officers found a .12 gauge sawed off shotgun and an armored vest.

Police were flagged over at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday from persons who reported hearing several gunshots in the area of 1947 Darrah Street. Police learned that at least 10 persons were trespassing in unit #4. No arrests were made, said Lt. Brent Smith, since the apartment manager could not be contacted and there was no proof as to who possessed the illegal weapon.

• DUI CHECKPOINT NETS TWO ARRESTS: CERES - A Saturday DUI checkpoint in Ceres resulted in 1,400 drivers being screened with Leonard Milne, 46, of Turlock, and Juan Cortes-Melchor, 24, of Ceres, arrested for drunk driving.

A total of 32 drivers were cited. Jose Guzman, 43, of Riverbank, was arrested for evading an officer.

Police towed 24 vehicles because the drivers were illegally driving.

• STOLEN MOTORCYCLE RECOVERED AFTER CHASE: CERES - A rider of a stolen motorcycle led Ceres Police Sgt. Trenton Johnson on a pursuit yesterday morning that ended in Keyes.

At 3:20 a.m. Johnson observed a motorcycle being ridden at fast speeds in the area of Malik Drive and Hackett Road. The rider failed to pull over and sped off with the pursuit reaching speeds of over 100 mph. The chase ended a short time later in Keyes. A 911 dispatcher received a call about an abandoned motorcycle in an alleyway between 7th and 8th streets in Keyes. The blue and white 2007 Suzuki RS had been stolen out of Turlock four months ago. Others called 911 to report that a man was jumping fences in the area but the suspect got away.
