CRASH LEADS TO WARRANT ARREST: CERES - A car crashed into the front of Quik Stop at Service and Morgan roads Saturday evening and its driver went to jail for a warrant.
Ceres Police were called to the convenience store in southwest Ceres at 10:11 p.m. after Andrea Reyneso, 36, of Los Banos, lost the brakes on her black 1991 Eagle Talon. She was making the corner from westbound Service Road to northbound Morgan Road when she noticed her brakes were not grabbing. The car jumped the curb and went into the front of the store.
Police learned that Reyneso had a misdemeanor warrant issued by Los Banos Police.
STOLEN CAR STOPPED: CERES - Officer Jason Brock, who has a knack for catching car thieves in their tracks, made another car theft arrest early Saturday morning.
At 2:18 a.m. Brock was patrolling in the area of Valley Brook and Aristocrat on the west side when he spotted a brown 1997 Honda Accord. Brock saw the driver make a sudden U-turn and stop at Valley Brook and Big Creek. One occupant got out and began to flee. A second one was located in the 3000 block of Valley Brook Drive standing against fence. Arrested was Luis Hernandez, 18, of Ceres. He was charged with car theft, possession of stolen property and violating probation.
The car had just been stolen from a Ridlon Court residence and hadn't even been reported stolen.
INTOXICATED AND ASLEEP AT THE PUMPS: CERES - Employees of the Chevron station at Hatch and Herndon called police at 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning about a car parked at their pumps for about two hours. When Officer Lorenzo Beltran came out he walked up to the black 2000 BMW he saw Jagvinder Singh, 30, of Union City, asleep behind wheel with the engine going and music blaring. It took the officer a few attempts to rouse Singh and then noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath.
Singh failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
DUI SUSPECT CRASHES INTO CAR LOT: CERES - Two cars for sale in the lot of Kent's Kars, 3045 Fifth Street, sustained moderate damage after they were struck early Saturday by a suspected drunk driver.
The crash occurred at 1:55 a.m., said Lt. Brent Smith, when the driver lost control, jumped the curb and entered the lot. Police arrived and found the suspect's 1975 Chevy pickup abandoned at the crash site. It was registered to Brandon McClellan, 29, of Hughson. Sgt. Pat Crane searched the area and located McClellan walking in the area of Service and Mitchell roads.
McClellan was not injured but was determined to be double the legal limit for alcohol. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, and misdemeanor hit.
Smith said McClellan had just left a Fourth Street bar and was going southbound on El Camino at the time of the crash.
