• SHOOTING AT WALMART: CERES - Police arrested a teenager Wednesday evening, Jan. 13 after he allegedly fired two shots at another party in the busy Walmart parking lot.

Nobody was injured but police could not find the other party.

The name of the 17-year-old suspect was not released.

At 9:47 p.m. the suspect was leaving the store with another male when he spotted someone else and fired two rounds at them. The suspect then ran and scaled a block wall at the northeast corner of the property.

About 15 minutes later a resident on Rhone Drive called to report a suspicious man asking for help. When officers arrived they found the suspect hiding behind a fence. A .38 caliber revolver was found in the drainage ditch where the teen dropped over the fence.

His accomplice, a black male, got into a car and sped off.

• SHOTS BARELY MISS SLEEPING INFANT: CERES - Ceres police would like to find the two individuals who fired four to five round into an occupied home in the 2000 block of Walnut Avenue on Thursday night.

One round came within a foot of striking a baby, and two other rounds narrowly missed two adults sitting on a couch. The shooting occurred at 7:47 p.m.

Two persons were seen running from the scene. Police had no leads and the residents of the home say they don't know why their house was targeted.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Ceres Police detectives at 537-5727.

• FIGHT LEADS TO DUI ARREST: CERES - Police were called to a Thursday evening fight at the McDonald's at Hatch and Mitchell and ended up arresting the driver of a fleeing vehicle, charging him with drunk driving.

At 10:27 p.m. police dispatchers were called to McDonald's for a fight where participants had red rags hanging out of their pockets.

Sgt. Pat Sullivan saw a brown 1991 Acura Legend leaving the parking lot with three occupants and arrested the driver, Alexander Mendez, 20, of Modesto, after he failed a field sobriety test. Mendez was charged with DUI.

• MAN CHARGED IN DUI INJURY CRASH: CERES - Mac Gallardo, 41, of Denair, was arrested Saturday evening after he ran into another car that was stopped for a red traffic light at Mitchell and Service roads.

The crash occurred at 6 p.m. on Jan. 16 when Gallardo failed to stop when the red light turned for him on southbound Mitchell Road. His 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser struck the rear of a 2003 Acura driven by Mary Vierra, 67, of Ceres. Vierra and two other occupants complained of pain but refused an ambulance ride.

Gallardo's air bag was deployed and he was not injured. He was taken to Doctors Medical Center for a mandatory blood draw to determine the level of intoxication. He was booked on charges of DUI and speeding.

• DRIVE BY SHOOTING: CERES - Police arrested a juvenile believed to be the one who shot rounds at Magnolia and Ninth streets early Monday morning. The teen was arrested and charged with delaying and obstructing an officer, reckless driving, speeding and driving without a license but police did not have enough evidence to charge him with the shooting.

At 1:54 a.m. dispatchers received calls to report shots fired and officers responded to find six spent .40 caliber cartridge in the intersection of Ninth and Magnolia.

About 50 minutes later Officer Pat Daytona saw a vehicle speeding on southbound Tenth Street running a series of stop signs at 45 mph in a 25 mph zone. The driver pulled into an apartment complex parking lot on Roeding Road, striking a parking stall pole and fleeing into an apartment. The officer kicked open the door and found the juvenile. He had a Glock .40 caliber gun. The gun and shells matched by Lt. Brent Smith said officers could not prove that he was at the scene of the shooting.
