STRANGE BEHAVIOR LEADS TO ARREST: CERES - A Modesto man was arrested Monday, March 16 after residents in the 2600 block of Lawrence Street called 911 about a man in a car acting strangely.

At 6:36 p.m. Officer Coey Henson responded and approached the man in the vehicle. He found Kenneth Wagner, 53, appearing to be under the influence of drugs.

Wagner was charged with being under the influence and for violating the terms of his parole.

AUTO THEFT SUSPECT APPREHENDED: CERES - A traffic stop on Monday, March 16 netted the arrest of an auto theft suspect. Officer Brian Peterson made a routine stop on a car at 10:30 p.m. in the area of Ninth and Standford and learned that its driver, Richard Fox, 42, of Modesto, was wanted by the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force (StanCATT) for auto theft. Fox was charged with auto theft, and possession of stolen property.

His passenger, Jennifer Aughenbaugh, 21, of Ceres, was arrested on a felony warrant for grand theft. While being booked at the Public Safety Center, officers found a syringe and a small amount of narcotics on Aughenbaugh. She was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a syringe.

SANDWICH SHOP ROBBED: CERES - Police investigators believe that the man who robbed the Quizno's sandwich shop on Tuesday, March 17 may be the same man whose been committing similar crimes in Modesto.

At approximately 2:27 p.m. a man walked into the eatery at1515 Mitchell Road, Ceres, and ordered a sandwich. He indicated that he left his wallet in his car and would go get his money. When he returned, said police, he demanded all the money from the cash register. "The clerk didn't move fast enough and so he lifted up his shirt to show her a black handgun in his waistband," said Deputy Chief of Police Mike Borges. He fled in an older model black vehicle that may have been a Honda CRX.

The suspect was described as a white man, 5-foot-1, 150 pounds, black hair, brown eyes, wearing gray shirt, khaki pants and black hat.

ALLEGED DRUNK DRIVER HITS GATE: CERES - A Lodi driver was arrested Saturday morning after he crashed his pickup into a closed gate of an apartment complex at 1757 Richland Avenue and police determined that he was extremely intoxicated.

The manager of the complex called police at 12:36 a.m. on March 21 and said the driver was still in the vehicle. Francisco Menchaca, 30, of Lodi, was booked for DUI and driving on a suspended license.

HUSBAND ARRESTED FOR SPOUSAL ABUSE: CERES - When a 31-year-old Ceres woman showed up at Kaiser hospital in Modesto Sunday morning with facial injuries, hospital staff called police. The woman alleged that her 28-year-old husband, Paul Fermil, had physically assaulted her. Fermil was picked up by Ceres Police at 3:23 p.m. at his home and arrested for spousal abuse.

The woman suffered facial injuries, including blackened eyes. The police report indicated that the woman did not want her husband to be prosecuted.

STOLEN ATM CARD USED: CERES - Amber DeLeon, 30, of Modesto, will face charges that she stole the debit card of a Ceres acquaintance and used it to purchase nearly $5,000 in goods.

The victim called police at 6:37 p.m. on Friday to report the theft in the 3100 block of Larrynell Drive. The card had been used to illegally buy goods at eight locations. Police traced the card to DeLeon and recovered $4,000 in property purchased illegally with the card. One of the purchases with the stolen debit card had been used at Wal-Mart by buy over $1,700 in merchandise.

She was charged with with the fraudulent use of a credit card and grand theft.

DeLeon had been a close family friend who had taken care of the victim's two-year-old child in the past.
