• STOLEN CAR RECOVERED: CERES - Sergio Napoles, 23, of Ceres, was arrested Wednesday, July 20 for possession of a stolen vehicle after he was stopped by officers in a stolen red 1993 Ford T-bird.

Members of the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force (StanCATT) was watching Napoles and was pulled over at 350 p.m. at Glenda and Freda ways. The suspect then steered into a driveway where Ceres Police Sgt. Pat Crain and others ordered him out at gunpoint.

•HOUSE SPRAYED WITH BULLETS: CERES - An occupied home in the 2100 Moffet Road was sprayed with bullets in a likely gang-related shooting that occurred early Monday morning at 12:40 a.m.

Police received several calls about shots being fired and an unknown vehicle leaving the area. Officers attempted to stop several vehicles on the way without a description and failed to find suspects or any weapon.

At the scene officers found up to 12 spent 9mm casings and counted 10 holes in the house and tree in the front yard. Three windows of the house had been hit by bullets.

Nobody inside the house was injured.

• EATERY BURGLARIZED: CERES - Tequilas restaurant was broken into late Sunday evening or early Monday morning in what may be a string of commercial burglaries targeting Mexican food establishments in in areas including Ripon, Modesto, Escalon and Riverbank.

The windows of the business at 1530 Hatch Road were smashed in and the thieves went through cash registers.

The alarms failed to set and the break-in wasn't reported until 4 a.m. Monday.

• MAN HURT IN BAR FIGHT: CERES - A bar patron was injured Sunday evening when his head struck the concrete floor after being jumped inside the Midway Club at Mitchell and Hatch roads.

Men reportedly entered the club from the front and back and attacked two men inside the bar at 11:23 p.m. on July 24.

The victims were not cooperative with officers.

• THREE TIMES LEGAL LIMIT DRUNK: CERES - A Ceres man was arrested while driving his vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.24 percent, or three times the legal limit.

Officer Keith Kitcher stopped Darren Daniels, 45, of Ceres, for erratic driving in the 1500 block of Hackett Road at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.

"That's pretty hammered," commented Lt. Brent Smith of the Ceres Police Department.

• PAROLEE ARRESTED IN STOLEN CAR: CERES - Parolee Michael Erjavic, 27, of Ceres, has been arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, parole violation and possession of marijuana.

The arrest came about because officers were looking for a suspect in a white Acura involved in an earlier fight between a man and woman at a residence in the vicinity of Buenaventura Drive and Salmanca Court. Officer Chris Melton found a white Acura at the Quik Stop at Service and Morgan roads. When the officer ran the license plate it proved to be a stolen vehicle.

Erjavic was arrested but it's undetermined if he was related to the altercation since the female victim was not located.

• DRIVER STRIKES FENCE, KEEPS DRIVING: CERES - A car crashed into a Morgan Road fence Wednesday evening but its intoxicated driver took off with a piece of wood protruding from his car, only to damage parked vehicles along his route.

A woman heard the crash into her front yard fence in the 3300 block of Morgan Road at 10:57 p.m. A silver 2005 Toyota Camry had run over her mailbox and into the fence and started to drive off. She called 911 to report the crash and that the car made a westbound turn on Morgan Road. The car had been impaled by a 2x4 which stuck out six to eight feet. As the vehicle passed several parked cars the board struck them causing damage.

Officer Brittany England found the car at an apartment complex at Tranquil Lane and Service Road. She arrested Malkit Padda, 53, of Ceres, and charged him with DUI and hit and run.
