Arrest made in attempted car theft on Lunar Drive
Ceres Cop Car

An attempted auto theft was thwarted Tuesday, Oct. 20 when its owner and others called police and followed the suspect to help lead police to him.

At 6:38 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2000 block of Lunar Drive where the owner of a 1998 Toyota Corolla called about the would-be theft. The suspect, Alton Russell, 23, of Ceres, left the scene but was followed by a witness. Police were directed to Russell and took him back to the scene of the crime where he was positively identified.

Russell was found with a shaved key, which he allegedly used to try to start the Toyota. He was found in possession of methamphetamine and later admitted to the attempted theft. Russell was booked into the County Jail on charges of attempted auto theft, possession of burglary tools and probation violation.
