A 30-year-old Ceres man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly stabbed his sister in the chest during an argument in the 3500 block of Whispering Oak Drive.

Police 911 dispatchers were called at 5:50 p.m. over a 26-year-old female who had been stabbed once in the chest. Police Lt. Brent Smith said the two siblings were arguing about his physical abuse to their father.

Erik Salgado, 30, of Ceres, had fled the scene but was later arrested by a Sheriff's deputy in Salida. He was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism to a phone line to prevent a 911 call. Because the victim was holding her two-year-old son, Salgado also was charged with endangering a child.

The sister's wound was not life-threatening and she was transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
