Diversion tactic to protect girlfriend from arrest?

Officers were on patrol in the area of Darrah Street and Central Avenue at 9:52 p.m. on Sunday when they saw a young man take off running, leaving his girlfriend and another female friend behind.

Officers stopped the man around the corner but he had no warrant. He told officers that he was scared and took off running. However, Sgt. Jose Berber said it's possible that the man, who was later released, was trying to divert officers away from his girlfriend who had warrants for her arrest.

Police booked Ashley Castillo, 25, of Ceres, for an outstanding warrant.
