Daniel Walls, 27, of Empire, was arrested early Friday morning after an officer caught him speeding behind Hatch Road businesses and spinning donuts while allegedly intoxicated.

Officer Ross Bays was patroling in the 1400 block of Hatch Road checking on businesses at 4:09 a.m. when he heard a vehicle speeding and found a Silver Infiniti G35 spinning doughnuts in the parking lot. The smoke from the tires filled the passenger compartment of the car and clouded the parking lot behind the businesses.

The driver continued driving erratically until he saw Bays and stopped. Bays smelled alcohol on Walls, who admitted just leaving work at Rico's Pizza where he drank three beers.

Walls failed a field sobriety test and a breath sample revealed a preliminary blood alcohol content of 0.13 percent.

Walls' license had been suspended for a prior DUI conviction. He was arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license.
