Man suspected on drugs asleep behind wheel

A 24-year-old Modesto driver who appeared to be passed out on drugs behind the wheel of his Toyota Corolla was arrested early Thursday, April 29.

At 3:08 a.m., Officer Matthew Johnson found Carlos Silva in the driver’s seat of his car parked in front of a gas pump at a Chevron station at Service and Mitchell roads. Silva appeared to be unconscious.

When Officer Johnson roused Silva, the driver took his foot off the brake and the vehicle rolled forward several feet and struck the patrol car. Officer Johnson secured the Toyota. Officer Johnson noticed signs that Silva was intoxicated, and a DUI investigation was conducted.

Silva was believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs. Silva was arrested. A search of the car turned up suspected illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia. Silva was booked into jail at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center and faces charges of DUI, possession of illegal drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
