Gunfire erupted at 3624 Spruce Avenue in the county island outside of Ceres Sunday evening when bullets hit four persons, killing one person.
The shooting took place at approximately 9:45 p.m. Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department deputies were dispatched to the neighborhood between Highway 99 and S. Central Avenue. When they arrived they located three injured people, one who later died from injuries.
The person or persons who fired the shots had fled the scene by the time deputies arrived.
A fourth person later arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds.

Sheriff’s Lt. Joshua Clayton confirmed that multiple leads and possibly multiple suspects are being investigated. For that reason he said no further information will be released.
