Panhandlers arrested for warrants
Ceres Cop Car

Two men panhandling outside the Service Road Quik Stop store were wanted on warrants and arrested early Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Police were called at 1:31 a.m. by a store clerk about two men asking customers for money and refusing to leave after a 40-minute wait.

Marcellous McDonald, 37, of Tracy, denied he had been panhandling. Police learned that he had an outstanding Ceres Police arrest warrant for a prior theft.

The other man, Clyde Smith, 44, of Modesto, initially gave police a fake name. He had several arrest warrants related to drug offenses and driving on a suspended license. Smith was arrested and charged with providing false identification to a police officer.

Both McDonald and Smith were both booked into the Public Safety Center without incident.
