Sleepy driver jailed on warrant, suspended license

A man who fell asleep behind the wheel and impeded traffic on Tuesday evening, Jan. 26 was arrested for driving on a suspended license and for a warrant for his arrest issued by Modesto Police.

At 9:24 p.m. Ceres police officer Jesse Gutierrez was driving eastbound on Hatch Road approaching Central Avenue when he noticed vehicles swerving around a vehicle stopped in the lane in front of him. When he reached the driver he had to awaken the driver. Officer Gutierrez learned that the driver had a suspended license and the $2,000 bail warrant for theft.

The driver, Richard Velasquez, 28, of Ceres, was arrested and the car was towed.

A short time later, at 11:05 p.m., police were called to the 3700 block of Northern Oak where a man was known to be wanted on a warrant for a prior assault with a deadly weapon, witness intimidation and probation violation. Police performed a high-risk arrest on the man, Julio Hernandez, 22, of Waterford, who was sitting inside the car.
