A 19-year-old Modesto man was arrested Thursday evening, May 28 after he was seen speeding and led police on a chase that ended when he crashed his car.

At 8:28 p.m. Officer Kiashira Ruiz saw a black two-door convertible Mercedes speeding as it made a northbound turn onto Herndon Road from Hatch Road. The driver, Maorisio Revuelta nearly lost control and then spun his tires as he made the curve in front of the 7-Eleven.

The officer followed Revuelta and tried to pull him over on northbound Herndon Road. Revuelta ignored the officer, accelerated and ran stop signs at Herndon and Lucchessi and Herndon Avenue at River Road. The pursuit traveled to eastbound River Road where Officer Ruiz lost sight of the vehicle through the various curves. She could not see the vehicle on River Road and decided to look southbound on Central Avenue where she saw him smacked into a utility pole near Hatch Road. The vehicle came to rest in the front yard in the 1200 block of Central Avenue and caught afire.

Revuelta had fled from his wrecked car but was apprehended in the 1400 block of Payne Avenue by Officer Eric Souza. The 16-year-old female passenger he left behind was not injured and released to her parents.

Revuelta was arrested on charges of evading a police officer with disregard for public safety, child endangerment, hit and run, resisting arrest, reckless driving and driving without a license.
