Warrant arrest linked to store theft

The Jan. 20 arrest of persons placed two persons behind bars who are linked to a theft at the Riverbank Target store in which a loss prevention officer was allegedly nearly run over by the escaping car.

An officer responded to a 10:50 p.m. call about a suspicious car in the area of McKittrick Court and Kinser Road. While en route a caller told dispatchers that the car was leaving toward Railroad Avenue. The suspect car was stopped at Hackett Road and West Avenue. Driver Benjamin Haney, 29, of Ceres, was found to be the subject of a Sheriff's Department warrant for conspiracy, shoplifting and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Target theft.

Passenger Andrea Macen, 27, of Keyes, was booked for the same warrants as well as new charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia since she was found with a syringe containing meth.

Haney also faces new charges of driving on a suspended license and parole violation.
