Woman arrested trying to dig up asphalt

A Ceres woman was arrested Saturday afternoon after she was spotted trying to dig up pavement in a downtown parking lot with a pair of scissors during the Ceres Street Faire.

At 2:51 p.m. police were made aware of Misty Ary, 34, of Ceres, digging at the asphalt in Maria's Taco Shop parking lot at Third Street and Whitmore Avenue. As officers approached Ary she allegedly tried to snort the asphalt and had black asphalt marks around her mouth and nose. When an officer asked why she was trying to snort the asphalt she told him, "I'm trying to find something buried underneath the asphalt."

She was taken for a 72-hour mental health evaluation hold but is suspected to have been under the influence of methamphetamine.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Berber said Ary was a "frequent client." The Courier has published three stories about Ary's previous arrests since 2014. In one case Ary was arrested in November after digging and exposing gas lines while half naked.
