Members of the Ceres Youth Commission spent many hours Saturday feeding needy families with members of the Ceres Lions Club. The students and Lions prepared and cooked 150 free meals for families and supplied 15 family baskets filled with winter essentials.

The CYC also distributed coats and blankets which were collected at both Ceres and Central Valley high schools as well as Mae Hensley and Blaker Kinser junior high schools. Casey Moving Company of Ceres donated use of the containers used in the "Cram the Sam" collection effort.

"The CYC came up with the coat drive idea as a way to give back to their community," said Cambria Pollinger, the city of Ceres' recreation supervisor.

A number of Ceres businesses got into the act, including Food 4 Less, and Wal-Mart.
