A 32-year-old man was killed by a freight train as it passed through Ceres on Sunday morning, Ceres Police said.

The death occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks near Railroad Avenue and Kinser Road. Ceres Police officers arrived on scene and found the man’s body. His identity was being withheld pending notification of family members by the Union Pacific Railroad Police.

“We don’t know if it was a suicide or if he just wasn’t paying attention,” said Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Greg Yotsuya.

The investigation into the death is being conducted by Union Pacific railroad detectives.

Besides the obvious danger, it is illegal for anyone to trespass on railroad tracks or property.
