The Ceres Blaze eight-and-under travel baseball team faced a familiar opponent in the championship game of the TPR Spring Season Playoff Tournament.

The second-seeded Blaze exacted revenge with an 11-3 win against the top-seeded Club All-Stars on May 19 at the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Manteca.

Ceres lost 14-10 to the Stockton-based team in league play.

“We had a lot of expectations for this group,” Blaze assistant coach Ralph Valencia said. “To see them win it (the playoff tournament title) is cool.”

Ceres compiled a 2-0 record in the playoffs.

The Blaze elevated their level of play while pulling away for an eight-run victory versus the Club All-Stars in the finals.

“The boys were excited to play them again,” Valencia said.

Ceres totaled eight hits in the championship game.

The Blaze also played flawless defense.

“We played good baseball,” Valencia said.

Zael Jones batted 3-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs.

“He’s been big for us all year,” Valencia said.

Zeke Goblirsch batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Malaki Amkhamavong batted 1-for-1 with two runs.

Ezekiel Bautista batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Roman Raj and Jeremiah Lopez both scored two runs.

Diego Santillan batted 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Adrian Barragan and Jahaziel Lopez both collected one RBI.

Sebastian Delagrande tallied one run.

Adan Valencia was the winning pitcher.

He gave up one run and five hits with six strikeouts and one walk in three innings.

Raj allowed two runs and four hits with six strikeouts and one walk in three innings of relief.

“They both threw a lot of strikes and hit their spots,” coach Valencia said.

The Blaze outscored the Club All-Stars 10-2 during the final two innings.

“It was a 1-1 game going into the fifth inning,” coach Valencia said. “Then we got our bats going. We were able to get a few hits to spark us.”

Ceres defeated the third-seeded Oakdale Broncos 14-6 in the semifinals on May 12.

The Blaze had eight different players collect at least one hit on offense.

Ceres made just one error on defense.

Jones batted 1-for-1 with three RBIs and three runs.

Bautista batted 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two runs.

Delagrande batted 1-for-1 with three RBIs and one run.

Raj batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs.

Jahaziel Lopez batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Adan Valencia batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run.

Amkhamavong batted 1-for-1 with one RBI and one run.

Goblirsch batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Jeremiah Lopez scored twice.

Santillan added one run.

The Blaze posted a 12-2 record against TPR Spring Season competition.

Ceres won 10 of 12 games while finishing in second place during the regular season.

“We had a really good season,” coach Valencia said. “The boys showed improvement throughout the year.”

Amkhamavong, Barragan, Bautista, Delagrande, Goblirsch, Jones, Raj, Santillan, Jahaziel Lopez, Jeremiah Lopez and Adan Valencia made up the Blaze’s 11-player roster.

Head coach Randy Wheeler and assistant coaches Ralph Valencia, Derrick Goblirsch, Juan Santillan and Abel Valencia provided instruction.

The Blaze will begin their summer season next month.

“We got a good group,” Ralph Valencia said. “They’ll continue to improve.”
