Alanis bills head to vote in state Assembly
Juan Alanis
Assemblyman Juan Alanis

Assemblyman Juan Alanis moved his fourth and fifth bills to the Senate Floor on Friday for a final vote.

The first of the two bills to pass Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously was AB 243, which would allow victims of child abduction to apply for name and address confidentiality at the state level.

“The Safe at Home program has offered protections to particular groups of crime victims for over two decades,” said Alanis. “AB 243 is a long overdue step to ensuring that all victims of violent crime are offered the same resources.”

The second and final bill to clear the committee process was AB 255, which would allow hard-working first-responders to apply for priority class registration at California State universities while requesting the same at Universities of California.

“AB 255 will help our first-responders with their goal of obtaining better education and improving their career prospects,” said the assemblyman. “Priority registration is something that would have benefitted myself and many others if we had the opportunity.”

Both AB 243 and AB 255 have yet to receive any opposition from the Assembly or Senate. They each passed the Senate Appropriations Committee with a 7-0 vote and will advance to the Senate Floor for a final vote before reaching the Governor’s Desk. Alanis has had one bill signed into law (AB 1467 – The Neveah Youth Sports Safety Act) and has four more awaiting a final vote in the State Senate.
