SACRAMENTO – State Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) was appointed by California Senate President pro tempore Toni Atkins to serve as Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture.

Borgeas’ 8th Senate District includes the local communities of Hughson, Oakdale, Turlock and Waterford and areas in eastern California.

Borgeas’ selection is significant, given he represents large swaths of the agricultural Valley, ranchlands in the foothills, and Amador County wine country. He is the only Republican in either house of the California Legislature to serve as chair of a committee.

“I am honored to chair the Senate Agriculture Committee, and I would like to thank President pro tempore Atkins for appointing me to serve in this role,” said Senator Borgeas. “The Central Valley is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world, and we need strong, effective advocates in Sacramento on behalf of our agricultural community. I look forward to representing California’s agricultural regions and industries as Chairman of the Agriculture Committee.”

“California’s agricultural community commends the appointment of Senator Andreas Borgeas as the Senate Agriculture Committee Chair,” said Ryan Jacobsen, CEO of the Fresno County Farm Bureau. “During these challenging times for farms, ranches and rural communities throughout the state, Sen. Borgeas will work in a bipartisan manner with all stakeholders to holistically address the critical matters affecting food and fiber production.”

“Senator Borgeas will be a strong representative for the Valley as Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee,” said John Harris, owner of Harris Ranch. “I look forward to his leadership.”

Senator Borgeas has consistently proven to be an effective and respected advocate for farmers, ranchers and food producers he represents in the 8th Senate District by being solutions-oriented while working on key legislation in Sacramento.
