Individuals interested in serving their local schools are invited to file as candidates for governing Board positions from July 13 through August 7. Positions are up for election in school districts in Ceres, Hughson, Keyes and throughout Stanislaus County, as well as on the Stanislaus County Board of Education, for the November 3election.

Candidate filing forms are available through the Stanislaus County Clerk Recorder’s Office, Registration and Elections Department, located at 1021 I Street, Suite 101, in Modesto. Completed declarations of candidacy must be filed with the Stanislaus County Superintendent of Schools, in care of the Registration and Elections Department, no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, August 7. Eligible candidates must be registered voters and meet applicable residence requirements.

School Board members help form district policies, oversee budgets, support student achievement, and shape the future of public education in their communities. Four of seven seats on the Ceres Unified School District Board of Trustees will be up for grabs in the November election.

The seats of CUSD Trustee Area 2 (Cynthia Ruiz), 3 (Valli Wigt), 5 (Lourdes Perez) and 6 (Dave McConnell) are expiring at the end of the year and will be filled by voters within the CUSD boundaries on Nov. 3.

Other seats open include:

• Three seats on the Stanislaus County Board of Education. They are occupied by Kim Rose in Area 1; Alice Pollard in Area 2; and Chinyere Nnodim Jack in Area 5.
• Three seats on the Hughson Unified School District Board of Trustees occupied by Alida Garcia (Area 2), Randall “Randy” Heckman (Area 4) and Mark Foss (Area 5).
• Three seats on the Keyes Union School District Board of Trustees occupied by Jimmy Emmons, Sr. (Area 2), Jeff Reed (Area 3) and Wesley A. Greene (Area 5).
• Three seats on the Yosemite Community College District Board of Trustees occupied by Don Davis (Area 1), Nancy Hinton (Area 2), and Jenny Nicolau (Area 4).
