Cerean injured in fatal car crash

WINTON -- A 22-year-old woman from Ceres was injured in a Merced County car crash in which her driver was killed and others injured.

The 31-year-old Livingston man who was driving the 2000 Honda Civic involved in Thursday's crash was killed instantly. His name had not been released.

His passenger, Elizabeth Escamilla, 22, of Ceres, sustained major injuries and was flown to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

The California Highway Patrol said the occurred at 8:05 p.m. on Jones Road at Olive Avenue. The accident report states that the victim was driving westbound on Olive Avenue approaching Jones Road and failed to stop for a posted stop sign and was struck by a 2005 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound on Jones Road. The impact was on the driver's side of the Honda.

The driver of the Toyota, Juan Campos, 35, of Winton, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Passenger Nancy Campos, 15, sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Memorial Medical Center.

The CHP said it's unknown if alcohol was a factor. The crash is under investigation.
