COLUMBIA - A Ceres woman was killed Saturday afternoon when the car she was riding in left State Route 49 and collided into a tree stump near Columbia.

Candice Lynn Flint, 30, of Ceres, died in the solo vehicle crash which was believed to be alcohol related.

The California Highway Patrol said that Joshua Hamricka, 32, was driving a black 1998 Ford Mustang while intoxicated northbound on Highway 49 when he allowed the car to drift off to the east side of the highway at Flume Road. Hamricka is believed to have steered left which sent the car into a spin that slid across all lanes of SR 49 and into a stump on the right side of the road. Flint died instantly from the impact on the passenger side of the car.

The crash occurred at 2:35 p.m.

Hamricka was air lifted to a Modesto hospital where he was treated and released. He was placed under arrest and transported back to Sonora where he was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for suspicion of drunk driving.
