The Ceres Chamber of Commerce has cancelled plans to hold the Oct. 7 Community Yard Sale that had been set for the Ceres Community Center parking lot, announced Chamber office manager Dovie Wilson.

The sale has been nixed but two other activitivies are scheduled to go on as planned. They include this Saturday's 3rd annual Ceres Lions Club Harvest Festival and the "Dinner and A Movie" Night set for Saturday, Oct. 21.

The Ceres Lions Club will host its Harvest Festival from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Ceres Community Center. The event - for persons 21 and older only - will highlight area craft beers and spirits from eight breweries, wines from three local vintners, local foods and food samples, cigar tobacconist samplers with bottled water and soda available. The event will also feature door prizes, a silent auction, raffle and a Second Amendment drawing.

All proceeds will go toward high school scholarships. Tickets are $20 for advanced by calling 226-5013 or at the Chamber of Commerce office, 2904 Fourth Street; or $25 at the door.

Dinner & a Movie
The Ceres Chamber of Commerce will host a weather-permitting "Dinner and A Movie" Night at Whitmore Park at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. The event will celebrate the arrival of fall with dinner by Pastas Pronto, soon opening in downtown Ceres, and the showing of the Hitchcock suspense thriller "North by Northwest."

Served will be salad, bread, and choice of Chicken Alfredo, Capelline Pomodoro or Eggplant Parmesan and cake.

Advance ticket sales are $30 per person or $50 per couple. The bar will sell beer and wine at $5.

Cocktails will be served at 5:30 p.m. with buffet style dinner served at 6 p.m. and movie at 7:30 p.m.

Popcorn will be served during the movie.

Tickets may be purchased by phoning 537-2601 or at the Ceres Chamber of Commerce office, 2904 Fourth Street, Ceres; or online at ceresdinnerandamovie.eventbrite.com (a convenience fee will apply). Ticket sales will end Oct. 16 and will not be sold at the event.
