U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) wants to see more jobs in his district. Last week, Denham announced his 2013 Central Valley Job Fair in his efforts to spur employment in Stanislaus County.

The job fair, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Modesto Centre Plaza, will help connect employers with job seekers and provide an opportunity for face-to-face meetings.

"The unemployment rate in Stanislaus County continues to hover around 12 percent," said Denham. "I intend to do everything I can to help hiring employers meet with job seekers and prepare those looking for work to best present themselves."

This year's fair would mark the second time Denham has hosted the event, but unlike last year, the event will be in Modesto, and not Turlock. This is due to Denham's partnership with the Stanislaus Economic Development and Workforce Alliance, based out of Modesto.

Teri Adams Jones, communications marketing manager for the Stanislaus Economic Development and Workforce Alliance stated they too share Denham's sentiments when it comes job creation in the area.

"Any way you slice it, the Alliance is all about jobs - creating them and putting people to work," said Jones.

Last summer, unemployment in the county hovered over 15 percent.

Jones also stated that although job rates seem to be on an upswing in the county, there is still room for improvement.

"Our unemployment rate may be dropping, but we still have a lot of good people looking for a job." said Jones. "That is why we are again working with Congressman Denham's office to put on this job fair."

The event will feature Central Valley employers seeking new hires in a wide range of fields. Employers will be accepting resumes and meeting with interested applicants throughout the fair.

Along with hosting the fair, Denham will also be working in conjunction with Brandman University, part of Chapman University, to provide a variety of workshops and seminars for prospective job applicants. On Sept.18, the week before the fair, Brandman University will host a resume clinic and a series of workshops to help job seekers appropriately identify the best practices to present themselves to employers. The workshops will cover interview strategies and online job search strategies.
