Hatch Road crash proves fatal
Car jumps curb of center median and strikes pickup
fatal crash Hatch
A woman died when her eastbound Toyota Corolla went over the center median and was struck by a westbound Chevy pickup on Hatch Road Monday morning.

A Monday morning crash between a passenger car and a pickup resulted in the death of a Modesto woman.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:31 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Hatch Road just west of Central Avenue between a red 2013 Toyota Corolla and a 2006 Chevy Silverado pickup. Both vehicles came to rest south of the CVS Pharmacy parking lot.

Killed in the crash was Martha Guzman of Modesto.

Ceres Police said that for some unknown reason Guzman allowed her eastbound Toyota Corolla to jump the curb of the center median and struck the westbound Chevy. The impact struck the passenger side, resulting in Guzman, who was in her 50s, dying.

The driver of the pickup, Joe Soriano, 18, of Modesto, sustained minor injuries but his passenger was not hurt.

The road was slick with rain at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash is being investigated but it did not appear that drugs or alcohol was a factor.
