The Sheriff’s Department has identified the woman whose body was found floating in the Ceres Main Canal near Hughson Monday morning as Maria Victoria Ortiz, 68, of Hughson.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed this morning to determine the cause of death although it’s believed that she drowned.

Ortiz’s body was discovered floating face-down in the water at 8:03 a.m.

Patrol deputies assisted firefighters and paramedics with recovering the body near Tully and Hatch roads.
